This type of latch provides an excellent method of securing a large variety of doors and covers. A close look at the drawing shows the lifting of the single vertical bar using the handle will cause the two cross bars to move upward in unison.
This type of mechanism will keep the whole door or cover closed tightly when the inside surface of the two catch lugs are slightly tapered from the top to the bottom, rather than being made square.
